HR professionals need to show great interest in development in people profession due to the increased demand for better competence. The HR professional is dynamic and continues to evolve and there is need to understand better ways of improving the productivity of the workers for the sake of stakeholders.

There are two approaches that I have found to be effective in staying up to date with people’s practice reviewing the sources of human resources and seeking mentorship. There are two formal ways of improving skills and knowledge by HR professionals

  1. Attending training, workshops, and seminars: an organization can organize seminars and workshops, which are tailored to the needs of the organization’s employees.
  2. Short courses: there are numerous online courses that are offered on different platforms such as udemy, Linked in, CourseEra etc.
  3. Reviewing sources of human resource: The following could be a source of information that relates to people professionals:
  4. Society for Human Resource Management Services: I have signed up to get legislative updates from the Society for Human Resource Management. To obtain them, one must unquestionably become a member.
  5. Professional associations: depending on my field of specialised interests, job title, and work description, I have joined various professional associations.
  6. Subscribe to Publications from Relevant Government Departments: I subscribe to email updates from both the Department of Labour and the directorate of Labour law. Every directorate has a comparable institution that handles Omani labour and state-specific laws and regulations.

To be up to date, I undertake short courses online. I also attend numerous seminars and trainings that are offered in our organization. I am planning to further my education in human resources to get more skills. Finally, I also seek mentorship from my seniors. These approaches are appropriate as they provide me with convenience of continuing with work while also working. Seminars and workshops that are facilitated in the organization are effective as they are tailored towards our needs as employees.

Mentorship

The connections you build with individuals count, just like they do in any job. I receive mentoring and information on new trends when I’m with the right people. My career progress is aided when I surround myself with knowledgeable mentors and seasoned colleagues. I also think about looking for job-shadowing opportunities so I may network with more people in my field of interest. I search for mentors that I can look up to, respect, and feel at ease asking for help from. To locate new contacts, I also proactively check websites like LinkedIn or entoring-specific services like Mentor Selector. By surrounding myself with the proper people, I can better define my professional path and nurture my industry enthusiasm.
