Literature Search Strategies

The search strategy for sourcing the literature about my dissertation topic entitled “Implementation of Evidence-Based Practices by Probation Leadership and the Impact on Probation Supervision” was specifically tailored to yield the most relevant sources. Various Boolean operators (AND, OR, NOT) were instrumental in refining the search results to ensure topical relevance. The chosen keywords included “probation leadership,” “evidence-based practices,” “EBPs,” “probation supervision,” and “EBPs implementation challenges.” These keywords individually and in combination with the Boolean operator “AND” constituted the cornerstone of the search strategy so that the topic would be exhaustively and holistically addressed.

Several academic databases proved invaluable: PubMed for medical and science-related literature, ProQuest for comprehensive social science scholarship, and Google Scholar for an expansive range of academic articles. In addition, the National Criminal Justice Reference Service (NCJRS) proved essential in searching criminology-related literature. Moreover, I used systematic processes to select the literature. Only peer-reviewed articles published within the last decade were considered. Some seminal research that is more than ten years old will be employed in this study if it is substantially relevant. I prioritized empirical studies using statistical analyses to examine the impact of EBPs on probation supervision outcomes. All literature referencing my study topic above was considered in the search.
