Statement of Purpose

Medicine has been my career of choice, after studying Biochemistry Molecular Biology at the University of Santa Cruz in California, I joined New York Medical School and thereafter in 2005 I joined the Navy. While serving with the Marines in combat I came face to face with occupational hazards, severe burns, sun strokes and various other health conditions caused by noise and vibrations in dangerous war zones. Several years of work as a military medical professional and experience in clinical management have given me exposure to many facets of this field. I have also been one of the pioneers of Medically Complex High Risk Patient Tracker (MCHRPT), which has helped to identify the Marines on abusive medication with a focus on mental health diagnosis, which could instigate Marines to cause physical harm to themselves or others. With the help of Force Preservation Council and by keeping such Marines under surveillance, the number of Marines in situational crisis has been considerably reduced. We have been successful in the prevention of occupational hazards of the Marines with mental syndromes by communicating with the Command and thus avoiding any potential danger to the Marine Corp mission. My involvement with duites like this has instigated me to pursue Occupational and Environmental Medicine residency.

My interest in the field of Occupational Environmental Medicine stems from my undergraduate background in biochemistry and association with the Marines. Although various facets of medicine are intriguing; but the facet which is most fascinating as well as challenging to me is the Occupational and Environmental Medicine. This field of medicine offers unlimited possibilities in pursuing studies in critical care as this will enable me to identify occupational

hazards and thus prevent further injuries to our service personnel. There remains no other ambition which I so keenly wish to pursue. I am confident that my experiences at the Navy were the driving force to bring me to the point. I feel persistent to excel in my endeavors. During my years at the Marines, I have developed the compassion and dedication that will help drive me through in future, in which I believe and look forward to with anticipation.

I have been well liked by my peers and was able to successfully earn their trust and confidence. Being in Marines, I am empathetic and work well with others, a team atmosphere has always been my most cherished environment. At a personal level, I am intelligent, dedicated and an avid learner. To come out the best has been my motivating force. I feel assured that my residency at Harvard University will be of immense help to me to prepare myself to serve the Marines effectively. I seek a program in residency at Harvard University not just because it is globally acknowledged as one of the best Occupational/Environmental Medicine residencies in the world but also because I am inspired by its American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine research awards. The valuable opportunities offered through Initiative for Productivity and Health Management, rigorous training, highly advanced study and research facilities and an outstanding faculty, where I can tap into the professional knowledge of a faculty who have dedicated their lives to the cause of medicine. I firmly believe that a residency at Harvard will give me a good start in improving my skills and provide me a strong foundation to fulfill my goals.
