To attain the best results, it is essential that change happen gradually and be assessed for improvement while addressing issues and creating a plan (Zipfel et al., 2022).
The first plan will address issues including having just one hospital, variety in culture, inability to pay for care, and accessibility to mental health services. Increased access to preventative activities and healthcare is necessary to stop the spread of dangerous diseases. Taking preventative action can potentially reverse the trend and lower mortality, morbidity, and related expenses because the majority of serious chronic illnesses, both mental and physical, can be avoided. Vila Health needs to take advantage of this chance to help the neighborhood. In order to increase access to medical and mental health treatment, especially for people with lower incomes, I propose creating a more centralized institution. The importance of healthcare prevention must be emphasized more.
Jordan’s situation is becoming more dire. Many patients who come to an urgent care center have issues that they might have handled with a general practitioner, but they don’t have a family doctor they can trust (Capella University, n.d.). Two people who had seen a doctor for minor discomforts the year prior were also diagnosed with stage IV cancer because of untreated or badly controlled high blood pressure and diabetes (Capella University, n.d.). Many people without insurance only visit the doctor when they become ill, even though many of these issues might have been avoided.
The Benefits and Implications of Telehealth
Hospitals must have telemedicine systems in place in order to adapt the healthcare system to the needs of technological innovation. These systems allow doctors and other stakeholders to view patient records and communicate electronically. Telemedicine will enhance service delivery and guarantee accurate record keeping by providing it to remote regions without access to great healthcare (Cushing, 2022).
In this scenario, a telehealth infrastructure will enable a facility to operate efficiently, particularly if patients utilize their web portal to schedule online consultations with their primary care physicians. Because, for example, Jordan City has limited access to technology, rural residents will take part in online consultations that are tailored to their needs and the quality of treatment that is urgently needed to sustain their mental health problems.
Furthermore, these telehealth-enabled online sessions for mental health or potentially cardiology consultation are advantageous since they will lower transportation costs and make specialists available to residents who do not have physical access to them in their community (Grustam et al., 2018). The institution aims to enhance patient outcomes by augmenting the daily patient load of its physicians, nurses, and psychiatrists (Hawkins, 2022).
A technology system has the benefit of connecting patients with medical specialists who have access to a multitude of information and can provide accurate diagnosis and current therapies. In order to get precise, comprehensive, and subjective information for the best diagnosis and course of treatment, patients will also communicate with their primary care physicians via video conference (Hawkins, 2022).
Potential Barriers to Change
Jordan City’s primary issues are extreme poverty, a lack of workers, and poor literacy rates, all of which are believed to impede the effective use of telemedicine technology (Lyu et al., 2022). That suggests that since patients might not be familiar with the existing telemedicine system, they might need to be taught how to use it. Additionally, this demographic is less technologically sophisticated, which reduces the appeal of telemedicine.
Furthermore, because the program’s infrastructure was developed in English, it will be more difficult for people to get telemedicine services because many minority groups in the area do not speak English. As a result, it will be challenging to construct the planned telemedicine infrastructure, endangering the project’s success. Nevertheless, by devising workable and astute solutions at the implementation phase, program designers and other stakeholders may be able to circumvent these difficulties (Lyu et al., 2022)
