NR 501 Week 2 Assignment-My Nursing Philosophy

Philosophy is the study of existence that promotes our reflection. Through philosophy, we have a deeper evaluation of how we do things and why we do them the way we do.

Likewise, when philosophy is applied in nursing, it helps us to think critically and evaluate our actions in the way we apply them in our practice. It is important to note that nursing philosophy connects our thinking, our beliefs, and our actions. Nursing philosophy is the basis of nursing theory knowledge and its application in clinical practice. After completing my bachelor’s degree in nursing, I decided to pursue my master’s to advance my nursing knowledge in the professional track. In this paper, I intend to assess how the nursing philosophy affects my nursing practice. This will be done through delving into the values, principles, and beliefs that impact my clinical practice. In assessing the nursing philosophy, I will explain the meaning of nursing, its importance, the nursing theory that influences my practice, the skills, values, and qualities of nurses, and how my nursing career will impact society.

Meaning of Nursing

Since my childhood, I have always wanted to become a nurse. Throughout my life, I have wanted to help others and the goal of helping people in need. I have always thought it easy to explain what nursing means when asked about it. However, it is more complex than I thought to explain the meaning of nursing in my life. For all my years in nursing practice, I have realized that nursing is more than a career or profession. It is a way of life. Nursing expresses the skills, values, beliefs, and morals we have learned and developed throughout our lives. In this case, nursing means that I should be humbled to be included in other people’s lives by influencing their lives positively, especially in the health journey. All people deserve to be treated with respect and dignity, and quality health care should be offered to them. According to Andersson et al.(2015), patients must be treated sensitive, inclusive, and holistic. A compassionate, dedicated, and trustworthy nurse should treat them. As a nurse, I should take the initiative to provide support as needed, advocate for quality care, and help my patients make informed decisions to improve their outcomes and meet their healthcare goals.

NR 501 Week 2 Assignment-My Nursing Philosophy

Throughout my life and clinical practice, nursing has been characterized by a practice that involves holistic and empathetic approaches to care. As such, I have continuously developed my values and skills to develop my nursing leadership and educate other nurses on the importance of delivering high-quality care to the nurses. As nurses, we should be committed to providing quality and patient-centered care compassionately and holistically to improve our patients and their family member’s physical and emotional needs. As a nurse leader in my current practice, I strive to encourage and support my team members to achieve goals designed to improve the outcomes of the patients. This is achieved through evidence-based practice, continued learning and development, and effective teamwork.

Importance of Nursing to Me

Since my childhood, I have always been around nurses. My sister was a nurse, and her friends were nurses as well. I loved how my sister and her friends shared their knowledge and treated their patients passionately. As a profession, nursing is critical because it is rewarding and it is respectable. It is a career that never ceases to give out to other people. In particular, I learn new things in my nursing profession every day.

Moreover, the growth opportunities for nurses are unlimited, and we cannot exhaust them. In my practice, I am usually happy when my patient’s condition improves, and I always provide emotional support to the family members despite the situation of their loved ones. Nursing is essential because it allows nurses to practice their knowledge and other skills like emotional competencies. Seeing my patients recover and their family members are happy motivates me in my practice. My mother always told my sister that she had put a smile on the patient and their family members; that was a blessing from God. As such, although I am paid for it, I would like to count my blessings every day by exploiting and sharing my ability with other people.

Nursing Theory that Guides My Nursing Practice

Nursing theory is critical to all nurses because it forms the basis and foundation of our practice. In the history of nursing, many nursing theories have been developed, and nurses have used them to implement and develop their knowledge in practice. Nursing theories are studied and implemented in the daily
