Mario Carralero I am in THIS MSN FOR THE “ ACUTE GERONTOLOGY CRITICAL NURSE PRACTIONER, AGCNP”

Hi, again my name is Mario Carralero I have been married for 19 years, I have a 9-year-old daughter, and a teen 17 years old boy. I have been a Registered Nurse for ten years and achieved my Bachelor degree five years ago. Even though for many nurses ten years may seem as a regular average time of working experience in their lives, for me ten years is an invaluable time. Sometimes we used to say, ” the time flies away” and we do not appreciate it. However, in my case I feel blessed because those ten years transformed me into a better person as a whole, professionally, and sociologically.

I had the amazing opportunity of working in all bed side care areas and learn all different nursing skills. I did worked in Med-surge, Telemetry, and ICU. I have worked in the float pool of ICU going to all them MICU, SICU, CVICU, NSICU, and TICU settings wherever the need. At present I still do some ICU, but I am working full time in the Intervention Radiology. I grew up exponentially in my career, also it floating around allows me to create a great network throughout the hospital. I noticed my devotion for critical patients.

Finally, last two weeks I decided to start at once my plan on going back school. My continue relationship with nursing ICU has given me more insight into pursuing my MSN program in Acute Care Gerontology Advanced Practitioner nurse. One day, in the morning, I opened my emails at my hospital and I saw the education department recommending to all nurses to complete their BSN and MSN  programs at Walden University. I did my own research on the best online program around that meets my expectations to achieve my goal. As I further searched on the internet, I saw again Walden University. I believe that Walden’s mission statement aligned with my need to progress further.

According to Walden, their mission is to “provide a diverse community of career professionals with the opportunity to transform themselves as scholar-practitioner so that they can effect positive social change”( Walden University, 2019b). Which defines my overall goal to become a Practitioner who “provide life long, comprehensive care through disease management, health education, and preventative health services” ( Nurse Journal, 2020, para. 2). Walden University for sure will leave a positive impact not only to me as professional but also to my family since this MSN online program is a perfect example of dedication and perseverance.

Incorporation of Social Change

As I become an Acute Practitioner Nurse, I will convey more effectively the patient care to all levels of our society and different ethnic groups in collaboration with physicians. The communication between the patient and the professional will be more transparent regarding the patient’s condition. Walden University (2019b) defined positive social changes as a “deliberate process of creating and applying ideas, strategies, and actions to promote the worth, dignity, and development of individuals, communities, organizations, institutions, cultures, and societies” (para. 4).

I will be ready to create bigger and better solutions, mainly for the healthcare industry. I see myself expanding my knowledge base here in Walden University, and hopefully improving the health disparity of minorities. I will work on making it possible to provide medical care to all sectors of our community in need of care. This aligns with Walden University’s view, which is to promote a positive social change in the improvement of human and social conditions ( Walden University, 2020b).
