OLIVIA QUALITY IMPROVEMENT PLAN 2
Stakeholders and Change Theory The stakeholders for implementing the quality improvement plan are nurses and patients. Also, educators and quality assurance form part of the team. The main responsibility of the stakeholders is to ensure that the implementation of the quality improvement plan is successful. Nurses need to initiate a comprehensive plan that could be used to assess the quality of care given to patients who are in the critical care unit. The nurses will thus be able to improve their responsiveness to the alarms and the utilization of the available healthcare resources. The stakeholders have various roles in the implementation of the plan: i. Nurses: They help in encouraging patients to provide adequate information regarding their health. The nurse offers insights that can help improve the condition of a patient (Swoboda, Dahlke, & Hunter, 2020). In order to prevent the dangers caused by missed alarms, the nurses should be able to use certain mechanisms to differentiate between false alarms in order to improve patient’s health. ii. Patients: The patients are useful in the plan implementation as they provide adequate information that would help in enhancing their care. They are expected to cooperate and release information and even give feedback on what they see, feel, and observe. Patients can be trained on the actions they should take when they notice an alarm. iii. Educators: Nursing educators will help in training nurses on how to maintain, manage, troubleshoot as well as incorporate machines data and the documentation of patient’s clinical data. The nurses, patients, cardiologists as well as intensivists are trained on the goals, objectives, and expectations for successful plan implementation. The biomedical engineering department are also involved in setting signals and WIFI to improve the efficiency of alarms. Quality Assurance: This team will ensure that effective implementation of the plan has been done and that alarm signals are modified effectively to reduce alarm fatigue among critical care unit nurses. Management Structure Utilization of the Change Theory Roger’s theory in nursing is usually directed to the unitary human. It is always concerned with the way human beings develop and it is thus the goal of nurses to promote change in human development. As a result, nurses will be dedicated in ways that would help promote the quality of healthcare among patients and ensuring that any underlying challenges are resolved. A nurse will be able to take ownership of their duties and roles and work beyond their expectations (Boamah et al., 2018). Both nurses and patients will be able to think before they do what they are told. Nurses will greatly be motivated and inspired to put the intervention plan into implementation in order to achieve positive outcomes. The financial resources will help in maintaining the good health of the patients in critical conditions as well as reducing alarm fatigue among night shift nurses. The hospital has put a budget which will help in arranging for hospital treatments, therapy, treatments, devices, equipment, machines, personnel, as well as in the maintenance of patients (Dixon-Woods, 2019). There will be a budgetary need for computerized equipment that will help nurses and patients in detecting and understanding alarm signals. The training of nurses will be of great significance towards achieving this plan. They will be able to use their knowledge to change their perception towards alarms and be in a position to differentiate between false and actionable alarms. Evaluation Plan Rating the performance of the quality improvement plan will be the best method to monitor the outcomes of the plan. It will help in tracking the rates at which alarm fatigue has dropped among the night shift nurses by showing the number of lives saved and the ability to distinguish false and actionable alarms. The effectiveness of the plan will be reassessed after four months to check whether there has been a positive outcome from the quality implementation plan. My main aim is to
